Back To The Future
by Joe Johnson It was back to the future for Wake Forest as Cory Randolph returned at quarterback and the Demon Deacons found a way to beat Clemson. Randolph, a senior and a 3,000-yard passer, had been relegated to backup status until this week after a month struggles by starter Ben Mauk. Randolph made the most of his opportunity and hit 20 of 25 passes, including three touchdowns. It was the best offensive effort through the air all season but it wasn't complete until Randolph hit Kevin Marion for a touchdown with 39 seconds left in the game. It was Marion's second catch of the season. But the game wasn't settled until Clemson receiver Curtis Baham was tackled inside the five as time expired. The change at quarterback was evident. Wake Forest was 11th in the ACC in passing with Mauk starting, His average of 129 yards per game was paltry and Mauk's best game was 198 yards in a loss to Vanderbilt. Randolph finished with 222 passing yards.
