"Clemson Answers ESPN Analyst"
by Joe Johnson Quitting wasn't on the minds of Clemson's players on Saturday when they rallied to beat Texas A&M. But it was on the mind of ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit who picked the Aggies to hold off Clemson. In the pregame show, Herbstreit said Clemson would quit if they got behind. Apparently, Herbstreit had some bad info about the Tigers. In the last seven games decided by fewer than seven points, Clemson now is 5-2. One of those games was Clemson's win over Miami when the Tigers trailed 17-3 but came back to win. Picking winners and making predictions are an unfortunate part of the media coverage that gets rolled into the hype surrounding big games. They are inherently unfair to the players, especially when they are based on reasoning that seems to be ill prepared. It's a good thing the Tigers didn't heed Herbstreit's assessment of their chances of beating Texas A&M because now Clemson is in the Top 25.
